When I try to save any type of file to my desktop (although it's usually an MS Office file, the icon appears on my desktop for about one second and then disappears. My settings in all Office programs are already set to default to the desktop location. With other file types I click on Desktop when prompted for the "save to" location.
Select OK and Save As window opens. Selecting Save replaces the file and all is good. This is a recent behavior. Cannot associate the problem beginning with any changes to the Mac. The files are being saved to an external SSD drive with plenty of space available. A web search found others having this problem had to turn off auto save options.

As you know that when we save e-mail on a server, filename given is subject of the e-mail. I find that very inconvenient since you can have same subject for e-mail received at different time. After this last restart now i can no longer save a file on my computer. It tells me that I do not have permissions to save to this file. I have gone into the security settings for the drives, files, folders you name it and put in full control, added inherits, at this point ive tried everything and who knows what all happens.
